BATTLE OF THE BREWS COMES TO NORTH PARK


CHAMPIONSHIP CRAFT BEER—Tornado, a craft beer centric tavern along North Park’s famous 30th Street beer corridor, is hosting a championship tap and cask tasting, May 4 while more than 4,000 beer aficiandos are still in San Diego for the Craft Brewers Conference and World Beer Cup. The conference is is a big event for San Diego.

Toronado is just one event in a plethora of beer celebrations during this conference week. Billed as “Tap Takeover World Beer Cup Night,” Toronado’s savvy beer pros will offer 25+ rare and specialty beers & casks, including 2010 World Beer Cup Gold Medal winners Ballast Point Brewing (WBC Champion Small Brewery) and Firestone Walker Brewing (WBC Champion Mid-Size Brewery).

In the red corner, Ballast Point will come out swinging with its Sculpin, Nitro Sculpin, Fathom, Pescadero, Wahoo and Victory at Sea. BP’s barrel aged beers will be Three Sheets, Piper Down, Sea Monster and Sextant. The San Diego brewery’s cask beers will be Calico Amber Ale and Black Marlin. The latter with Maker’s Mark soaked cocoa nib and oak chips.

And, in the Gold Corner, Firestone Walker’s lineup of heavyweights, includes its Double Jack, Wookie Jack, Pale 31, Solace, Agrestic Sour and Walkers Reserve. FW’s barrel aged beers will be Sucaba, Double Barrel Ale, Parabola and Velvet Merkin. Cask Beers from Mid-California-based Firestone Walker will be Union Jack and Velvet Merlin.
