OLD HOUSE FAIR.
Saturday morning and afternoon is booked with a day at the Old House Fair.  See yesterday’s (FRI. Jun. 14) Pillar to Post blog for times and details.

PROMISES, PROMISES.
Marco over at Fern Street’s Piacere Mio bent my ear the other day about his plans to add gelato to his menu.  He has the recipe that he brought over from Italy and is looking for gelato making equipment here in San Diego. “I’m going to make the best gelato in San Diego.  No where else will they find what we’re going to offer.” But that was last week, and no gelato at the new South Park Panini shop.

Then, we see in San Diego Eater that Arne at Caffe Calabria is also planning to install a gelato case at his popular 30th Street establishment.

So far, it’s all talk and no gelato at either place.

A pizza oven named Sofia

SPEAKING OF ITALIAN.
The wood fired oven at Buona Forchetta (30th & Beech) is named Sofia, after one of co-owner Matteo’s daughters.  We mention this because Sofia has grabbed some headlines in the latest blog at Food & Wine magazine.  Sofia was mentioned in a blog feature called “America’s Coolest Pizza Ovens.”  Check out the link:

Also, the on the newsstand now issue (June) of SD Home Garden Lifestyles has a dining review by Steve Silverman on Buona Forchetta, the new darling of South Park and San Diego.

EVEN MORE PIZZA.
City Councilmember and Council President Todd Gloria (District 3) is holding a community coffee this Saturday morning in Bankers Hill. "I hope you'll join me for an update on City issues and whatever neighborhood concerns are on your mind."
     Time: 10 to 11:30 am
Place: Pizzacato Restaurant, 2420 Fifth Avenue.

THE DEUCE.
Avoiding downtown because there's no perceived parking?  Remember San Diego Transit's No. 2 line runs every 15 or so minutes between Adams and 30th to the Santa Fe Depot downtown.  For $2.25 that beats parking lot fees, parking tickets and worst of all a DUI.  And, there's always room to bring your pals along for the ride.   Visit the No. 2 timetable online:
