SAN DIEGO SPRUCE UP--Once a year or so, the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) offers affordable design advice during its Spruce Up, the San Diego chapter’s annual fundraiser that will send a professional designer to your home or business office to discuss your design challenges and offer ideas and suggestions to make your space more functional, beautiful.
“Spruce Up enables you to experience the impact that professional interior design has on you and your environment,” said Kimberley Hansen, ASID, president of the local ASID chapter.
“For $85 per hour you can consult with a professional designer in your home or business,” she said. “The designer can help with furniture placement, color, window coverings, integrating your existing items such as antiques or collections with new purchases.  Or organizing spaces, creating media rooms, outdoor kitchens, or outdoor rooms – basically, whatever design dilemma you have.”
During March through May, ASID will link consumers with a qualified interior designer based on specific needs and geographic location.
“No matter what your budget or the size of your home or office, an ASID professional interior designer can help you turn your space into an environment that works for you and has a positive impact on your life and or business,” added Hansen.
“I love participating in this ASID fundraiser,” said Tricia Craven Worley, ASID, who has participated in Spruce Up for several years.  “I get so much satisfaction out of working with people who may never have worked with a designer.  It’s gratifying to introduce people to the huge impacts good design can make on their lives.  I tell them that a designer conceives the inconceivable.

“Professional design guidance is not a luxury,” she said. “In fact, designers minimize expenditures by eliminating costly mistakes and getting you the desired results within your budget.”

Pre-paid appointments can be arranged at convenient times now through the end of May.  For additional information and to register, contact the ASID office at (858) 274-3345.  Information is also available at the chapter’s website

ASID members are a diverse group of professionals.  The Society's 16,000 practicing interior designers, are equally divided between commercial and residential design:

3,000 commercial, 5,000 residential and 8,000 mixed

All members of ASID must adhere to the Society's code of ethics and professional conduct, ensuring consumers respectful and professional conduct when they hire an ASID designer.

The ASID appellation signifies that a professional member has met rigorous acceptance standards.  They must have a combination of accredited design education and/or full-time work experience and pass a two-day accreditation examination administered by the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ).
