ARCHIVE / MEDIA MONDAY/ UT SAN DIEGO’S CIRCULATION CONTINUES TO SAG

FEISTY DON BAUDER—Long time national and local business reporter/columnist Don Bauder says a report from a respected media circulation tracking service points to UT-San Diego sinking circulation figures under the ownership and leadership of local real estate and hotel businessman Douglas Manchester.

Don Bauder
Reporting recently in The Reader, a local weekly tabloid, Bauder says
compared with circulation figures from a similar time period last year “...show the Union-Tribune taking a circulation beating.”

He continues: “...The company earlier admitted to employees that it was not meeting its goals.”  An example of how big the circulation hit has been, Bauder points to Audited Media circulation figures for the U-T between March 31, 2013 and March 31, 2014, which revealed “...a drop in Sunday circulation from 425,000 to 362,166.”

In addition, the gloomy circulation stats are on top of a big loss coming from the UT’s now defunct television experiment, which reportedly cost Manchester interests in the neighborhood of $500,000.

Judging by his give and take with readers (he responds to most comments tracked after his posted online articles), Bauder has found a lively niche for his fearless media coverage.  He’s well worth following on http://www.sandiegoreader.com/news/2014/may/01/ticker-union-tribune-circulation-takes-hit/#
