URBAN EXPLORER / NORTH PARK FOODIE & BREW TIDBITS

Hamilton Tavern, South Park is the first pub to serve AleSmith's  Pale Ale 394

TONY KEGS--The late, great Tony Gwynn collaborated with AleSmith’s Peter Zien to create a brew that lived up to Tony and Peter’s standards for quality and happiness. Called San Diego Pale Ale .394, the brew is available at AleSmith Brewing Co.’s tasting room 9368 Cabot Dr. in the Miramar District and on Sunday, June it will be on tap at Hamilton’s Tavern 1521 30th St., in nearby South Park.  The figure .394 was Tony Gywnn’s batting average in 1994, the highest of his career.

WHAT’S REPLACING SEA ROCKET BISTRO—Bazinga Eatery, 3382 30th St., should be opening this month, according the mac and cheesy place owner Leila Oulaha.

SPEAKING OF BEER--Modern Times Beer is set to release their first 22 oz. bomber on June 26, soon before their anniversary party on July 12. The beer, Oneida, is a dry-hopped pale ale with Hallertau Blanc, Cascade, and Experimental Hop 05256.  Most will be headed to their distributor, but some will be held back for the tasting rooms: 3725 Greenwood Street in the Sports Arena area and North Park, 30th & Upas.

TACOS TUESDAY—Word is all over North Park that Tacos Perla in the North Parker project, 30th & Upas will “officially” open next Tuesday although it looks pretty busy as we watch from a table across the street at Café Cardamon.

DRINK ISSUECity Beat’s Drink Issue is available at all the usual spots. Editor David Rolland interviews the Mayor over a couple of drinks.  Amazing what little it takes to get liberals and conservatives to sit down at the table.
