WELCOME, BRANDON HERNANDEZ--Nationally recognized beer
author and journalist Brandon Hernández (Twitter: @SDBeerNews) has been tapped
as Editor-at-Large for monthly brewing publication, West Coaster. Hernández is
San Diego County’s most prolific beer writer, reporting on developments
regarding the region’s plethora of brewing companies, beer-centric businesses
and the craft beer industry as a whole. His expanded role represents a major
step forward in the expansion of the five-year-old print and web magazine’s
editorial coverage.
“Working
as our beer-and-food columnist, Brandon has been an important part of our
editorial staff for close to five years. We’re excited to expand the number and
frequency of his articles and insights, in turn upgrading the breadth of our
local and regional coverage on a near-daily basis,” says West Coaster
co-founder and publisher Mike Shess.

Adds West
Coaster editor Ryan Lamb, “Brandon’s expanded role truly broadens our already
recognized status as a top source for San Diego beer and food news.”
Hernández’s
impact will be most visible via West Coaster’s website, which will benefit from
the new editor-at-large’s frequent updates on new brewing businesses,
expansions, closures, events, standout beers and more. Such pieces have been
his calling card for the better part of a decade and led to him being regarded
as the county’s most prominent brewing industry correspondent.
Hernández
is the author of the annually published Complete Guide to San Diego Breweries,
the Senior Communications Specialist for Stone Brewing Co., a
Cicerone-certified Beer Server and an on-air correspondent on San Diego’s beer
scene for local television station, San Diego 6/The CW. In addition to West
Coaster, he has written for All About Beer, The Beer Connoisseur, Celebrator
Beer News, Beer Magazine, Imbibe and The New Brewer. His works have also been
published in USA Today, Los Angeles Times, U-T San Diego and more. Over the past
decade, he has garnered multiple awards for his writing, served as an expert
consultant for Food Network and the Zagat Survey, and been a member in good
standing with the San Diego Press Club, North American Beer Writers Guild,
California Craft Brewers Association, National Association of Hispanic
Journalists and more.
