HOW BALBOA PARK WOULD FIT IN OTHER CITIES

Satellite view of San Diego's 1.5 x 1.5 sq. mile Balboa Park. The large chunk of land in the lower center is the U.S. Naval Hospital, Balboa Municipal Golf Course is on the far right.  San Diego Zoo is the large central space next to the black top parking lot.  Museums line (left to right) in the middle of the image.  Interstate 5 snakes around the park (lower).  Downtown is lower left; Banker's Hill neighborhood is upper left; North Park is upper right and South Park and Golden Hill neighborhoods are lower right.

GUEST BLOG--By Brian Shreckengast | SpareFoot--Balboa Park is big. The 1,200 acre park is home to 15 museums, one of the world's premier zoos, performance venues, gardens, trails, and gorgeous greenery. It's nearly 1.5 miles wide and 1.5 miles long.

But those numbers don't really give you an idea of how huge Balboa Park really is. In order to do so, we used mapping tool MAPfrappe to compare Balboa Park's girth with cities and landmarks around the world.

You may be surprised by the results: At only 499 acres, Monaco would fit into Balboa Park more than twice. Balboa Park easily envelops downtown Boston. Check out our infographic below for even more comparisons:
