COFFEE BEANS & BEINGS / WHY IS THE PRESIDENT LAUGHING?

Governor takes one for the Chief
President John Kennedy saw action in WWII as a member of the U.S. Navy so he’s no stranger to military snafu’s.  Here’s a classic coffee moment June 6, 1963 aboard an event on the U.S.S. Kitty Hawk.  The Commander in Chief was guest of honor at a Navy fleet review off the coast of San Diego.

In the photo, JFK is holding a cigar and coffee while deciding just how hard he should chuckle.

Why is the President laughing?

Seconds before the image was snapped a Navy steward serving coffee to the VIPs spilled the tray on then Governor Pat Brown, who was seated next to the President.

Classic

Caption: To Pat: "It only hurts when you laugh..."  --JFK.
