Dear Natasha:
The Hotel Metropole on Place De Brouckere in Brussels, Belgium is no longer. The 1895 five-star Belle Epoque classic has closed. Fellow international spies will have to find a new place to rendezvous. Some good news is the hotel will reopen via new owners sometime in 2025. But it will never be the same.
In November 2022, the Métropole's owners, the Bervoets family, sold it to the American private equity firm Lone Star Funds for €100 million (€400,000 per room).
The new owners claimed that the hotel (built in the 1870s and operated as a hotel beginning in 1895) will be thoroughly renovated and reopened in 2025, managed by Centaurus Hospitality Management.
Until then, the photo above, shows a guest (wink, wink) sipping a Cappuccino in the lobby of the grand hotel before it closed down.
Sincerely,
Boris
