AUTHOR—Michelle Higgins has been a reporter for the New York Times since May

column, which appears
Sundays in the Travel
section and on the web, offers insider information on how to navigate the
travel experience—from how to get a good seat on a plane to how to find a
better hotel deal. She also routinely
writes features and consumer news for the Travel and Business sections.
Prior to joining the
Times, Michelle worked at the Wall Street Journal covering travel, personal
finance and automobiles, often contributing to the Cranky Consumer column.
Michelle has been
