Dear Natasha:
The Hotel Metropole on Place De Brouckere in Brussels, Belgium is no longer. The 1895 five-star Belle Epoque classic has closed. Fellow international spies will have to find a new place to rendezvous. Some good news is the hotel will reopen via new owners sometime in 2025. But it will never be the same.
In November 2022, the MĂ©tropole's owners, the Bervoets family, sold it to the American private equity firm Lone Star Funds for €100 million (€400,000 per room).
The new owners claimed that the hotel (built in the 1870s and operated as a hotel beginning in 1895) will be thoroughly renovated and reopened in 2025, managed by Centaurus Hospitality Management.
Until then, the photo above, shows a guest (wink, wink) sipping a Cappuccino in the lobby of the grand hotel before it closed down.
Sincerely,
Boris
