SPACE CADETS / NAVY SHIP LEAVES SAN DIEGO PORT TO RECOVER ASTRONAUTS

The USS John P. Murtha (LPD-26) departs San Diego Harbor on Monday to recover Artemis II Astronauts & Orion capsule: God Willing.

After the capsule hits the water on Friday, April 10 at approximately 5:07 p.m. PDT, Navy divers will assist the crew out of Orion. The astronauts (Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Jeremy Hansen) will then be flown by helicopter to the Murtha for medical evaluations before heading back to Houston.

This is the first crewed Artemis mission returning from the Moon — a historic moment captured right here in San Diego! Recorded live as she departs Naval Base San Diego on April 6, 2026.
