Pruzansky—San
Diego’s Bay City Brewing Co. unveiled its newest beer, Bay City Dark Lager, Schwarzbier,
which literally translates from German to mean black beer.
The
characteristics of this black lager are not overly bitter, nor does it drink
necessarily heavy in body while coming in at 5.3% ABV.
Unlike
porters or stouts, Bay City Dark Lager is a light, sessionable and brewed
carefully using the traditional German technique of darkening beer while
limiting roasted flavors associated with stouts.
Essentially
it is the same process baristas use to make cold brew but instead of coffee,
black malt is used. Bay City Brewing Co. is hosting an event to celebrate this special
release TODAY, January 19th in their tasting room 3 pm - 10 pm.
“This beer is meant for daytime winter
drinking and is sessionable without compromising flavor and malt character, so
you can enjoy several during the cold winter months,” said Chris West, Head
Brewer.
