Museums, historic sites, public places like aquariums aren’t top of the mind for stylish cafes, where you can grab a better than average cup of coffee and a tasty sandwich.

And, today’s offering is the simple, utilitarian, and brilliant foodie sensation called Splash! Café by the French Gourmet
Outtatowners might miss that the French Gourmet is one of San Diego’s venerable dining spots. The Pacific Beach locale (960 Turquoise St.) has always served delicious and creative fare. So, it’s no surprise that they’ve teamed with University of California/San Diego’s Birch Aquarium.
Splash! Cafe offers an array of gourmet delights next to the life-sized gray whale fountain. Relax outdoors during your visit and choose from a variety of hot and cold beverages, sandwiches, snacks, and more.
Fairtrade coffees from Cafe Moto, roasted locally in a solar-fueled roaster. Sandwiches, salads, and side dishes made daily from scratch by The French Gourmet.
Splash! serves boxed water. In keeping with the aquarium's mission, this product is taking the first step towards eliminating the plastic bottles that are desperately harmful to our oceans.
Splash! stocks a variety of grab-and-go snacks. Options include gluten-free and organic selections, as well as good, old-fashioned candy bars.
Plenty of seating and umbrellas for shade are available.
Guests are welcome to bring food and drink into the aquarium

Group Lunches Available
Adult groups and school groups can order their food in advance and have it waiting when they arrive at Birch Aquarium. Orders must be placed at least five business days in advance and last minute orders may or may not be accommodated.
