URBAN EXPLORER / LISBON WORTH A LOOK

A view of Lisbon, Portugal

GUEST BLOG / By Sofia Couceiro, CNN Travel news producer-- Many say Lisbon has a special light. I completely agree, there is something magical about the sun hitting the city’s white cobblestone streets and its beautiful tiled buildings. I should know, I grew up there!

For those of you who get a chance to visit the stunning Portuguese capital, here’s a list of my favorite things to bring home. And, if you can’t make it to this magical city for whatever reason, I’ve also got some suggestions of things you can buy online. If you can’t go to Lisbon, Lisbon will come to you!

Click here for the complete article including the shops and other sites worth visiting.

Head to downtown Lisbon and you’ll find O’live by Oliveira da Serra, aka olive oil aficionado heaven. When I’m leaving Lisbon, I love to bring this special olive oil with me. Shop photos by Austin Brown.

This typical family-owned Lisbon shop was established in 1930 and sells all kinds of fish cans. As a Lisboeta, I can tell you there is nothing we love more than canned fish. I personally recommend the “Prata do Mar: Atum”, a tuna can to die for. Conserveira de Lisboa has mastered the art of canning the sea and has all kinds of fish to sample including: sardines, mackerel, octopus and cod. While you wait you can enjoy its cool vintage look and watch employees hand-pack the cans. Check out the Conserveira de Lisboa website to learn more about traditional Portuguese fish canning from true masters of the craft.
