AMERICANA / KUBRICK THE PAPARAZZI

ROSEMARY WILLIAMS, the Manhattan fashion model was the subject of many of Kubrick’s more than 12,000 images he shot for various publications.
An exhibition of famed film director Stanley Kubrick’s early work as a staff photographer at Look magazine and other outlets just closed at the Museum of the City of New York.  In case you missed it, here are a few of early Kubrick’s images.

For any fan of Kubrick’s films, the exhibition called “Through a Different Lens” explored a formative phase in the career of one of the 20th century’s most renowned motion picture directors.  It would be a short career as Kubrick abandoned still photography in 1950 to pursue filmmaking.

ON ASSIGNMENT for a feature on work-a-day world of New Yorker cartoonist Peter Arno, photographed in Arno’s New York flat for Look Magazine.  The pose looks familiar in an Arno cartoon (above).

ROSEMARY, the showgirl danced in the line of the famed Copacabana night club.  His images were part of a feature on Miss Williams daily routine.
