FRIDAY FLYING / PRO PILOT’S VIEW OF SAN DIEGO LINDBERGH FIELD LANDING

Flying in from the East, pilots can view the SD International runway upper center of photo.  Balboa Park is the greenspace in the middle of the photo.  St. Augustine High's soccer field is far right. Highway 94 to the left and Coronado/North Island in the upper left along with downtown highrises

Every airline pilot I've asked says landing at San Diego International is challenging. "Keeps you alert," they say as the landing path goes between the city's downtown highrises.  But if it was dangerous, no doubt the airport would have been moved to the suburbs long ago.   San Diegans love Lindbergh Field because of its convenient location to all major transportation hubs.

A brand new airport has been built around the existing structures and will debut in 2025
