When in Paris. Pillar to Post photo by Phyllis Shess, April, 2013 |
ESPRESSO OASIS--Definitely learned
something about hotel scheduling. Took
the overnight tren/hotel from Barcelona to Paris. Had a first class dinner on board and had
coffee and brandies in the bar car with my bride and sons before returning to
our compartment. Problem was we arrived at Gare Austerlitz at dawn in a very
chilly Paris.
Dropped
our luggage at our hotel on Rue Cler in the 7th Arr. Only to
discover we couldn’t get into our rooms until early afternoon.
Because
the hotel was small there was nothing vacant.
I would have paid the price for a day room just because it was freezing
outside.
Decided
to suck it up. It was Paris and the
calendar said early April. Did I say it
was cold? Went to check out the Champs Elysees. And, quickly ducked into the first coffee
house we came across: Le Weekend.
Perfect. We had an impromptu
planning session on indoor sightseeing, along with excellent café and
pastries. I went with the ubiquitous OJ,
baguette and espresso.
Fortified
we cabbed it to the museums, where it was warm inside.
Won’t
make that early hotel arrival mistake, again.
