Strand Magazine, a feisty literary
quarterly based in Michigan exhibited successful journalistic enterprise by
researching dusty archives of icon writer John Steinbeck. The intellectual mining effort struck gold
when the publication (named after the magazine that first published Sir Arthur
Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes) discovered “The Amiable Fleas” in the archives
of Steinbeck’s work housed at the Harry Ransom Center, a rare books and manuscripts
collection at the University of Texas.
Strand’s managing editor Andrew Gulli’s
discovery was highlighted in a Books section article last weekend in the New York Times. Click here.
