MILAN FURNITURE FAIR
Three hot
concepts caught Laura’s eye at this popular Italian show. First was the Fien Muller/Hannes van Severen
day bed. The creative duo are the best
at intersecting the realms of art and design.
For the day bed, the designers used various textiles to accentuate its
three components: the side where you lie; the end where you sit and the
cushion.
Second, the B&B Italia Maxalto Fulgens armchair shows
off how its designer Antonio Citterio has reinterpreted traditional forms
create a cozy chair. He created a
continuous wooden structure with a wide back, plus armrests to increase the
sense of comfort. Those curved wings
would come in handy on the next redeye flight to Milan.
Next, Birns selected a sleek component from USM Haller Modular Furniture classic system that comes in 55 new surfaces. The new and simple laminate surfaces blend into minimalist living environments and work harmoniously with both unfinished surfaces and classic sideboards.
NEXT WEEK: Hot design from New York Design Week.
