2013 SILVER FORK WINNERS
This years Silver Forks menu of achievers includes 100 Wines in Hillcrest; 1500 Ocean in Coronado; Amaya La Jolla; Big Front Door in North Park; The Craftsman/New American Tavern in Encinitas; D Bar in Hillcrest; Eclipse Chocolate Bar and Bistro in South Park; Native Foods in Encinitas and Veladora in Rancho Santa Fe.
Silverman's picks in every July issue of San Diego Home/Garden Lifestyles come with his analysis of the current restaurant industry. Because of the July issue is still on the newsstand I feel obligated not to spill the details of Silverman's trends and choices out of respect for one of the last subscriber/newsstand magazines in the region. We all have to make a buck.
However, we can't have you leave without a hint. Here are the headlines for each trend mentioned:
--Pizza is the new sushi
--Beer is the new [designer] water
--Local and sustainable [hot or cold?]
--Menus are matchy, matchy [New American similarities]
--Pigs are on the slide
--Restaurant hopes spring eternal [start-ups unabated]
