Editor’s note: What a marvelous headline and one that we
discovered while reading a Paris based online magazine (blog) called My
Parisian Life:

MPL
is a terrific source for news about Paris from coffee houses to all the topics
that make Paris, well, Paris. I really
can’t say enough good things about this online enterprise. We at Pillartopost.org are grateful for
gaining permission to repost.
THE ART OF THE MORNING COFFEE IN
PARIS
Oh la vie
Parisienne is subtle mix of daily pleasures and necessary routine. The French
make time for leisure au quotidienne; the morning coffee is not a luxury it’s a
must.
How you have
it depends on your lifestyle, if you have to rush off to work you’ll most
likely just have it standing at the bar. Here its cheaper than sitting –
usually 1 euro. Or if you have time to read your morning paper or meet friends
you’ll opt for a table inside or “en terrace” where the coffee is usually 2.20
euros.
And bad
weather will not deter the average Parisian, most terraces are heated and
partially covered by very thick plastic. As you’ll see of have already noticed
from previous trips to Paris, Parisians smoke a lot, and its no longer permitted
inside.
While you’re
here don’t hesitate to order a croissant or pain au chocolat with your coffee,
they are usually fresh from the best bakery in the qaurtier. Very few Cafe’s
will offer a full american style breakfast, but those that do, do it very well,
with a mix of eggs, juice, french jams and Nutella.
Two of my
favorite cafes for either simply having a coffee or grabbing breakfast in the
morning, are in the 2nd and 3rd arrondissement, both in neighborhoods where you
can take a little stroll when finished with your coffee.
Both have
free Wi-Fi and a great ambiance for kids.
