DON’T MISS SOHO’S
ONGOING PLEIN AIR SHOW
San Diego’s leading historic preservation group, Save Our
Heritage Organisation, continues to celebrate the centennial of the 1915
California Pacific Exposition with the fifth of six outdoor plein air
painting shows exhibited on the Marston House's sweeping, shaded grounds on
Sunday, August 16 from 10 am to 4 pm at the Marston House Museum & Gardens
located on the Seventh Avenue side of Balboa Park (at Upas Street).
The free event is accompanied by live classical music by
various performers throughout the day, and light refreshments are all a part of
the festivities.
The Art of the Park show & sale features Balboa Park as
their sole subject and includes paintings for sale by different monthly groups
of award-winning artists.
Showing, painting, and selling their work on August 16 are
accomplished painters Andrea Gaye, Catherine Grawin, Krentz Johnson, Margaret
Larlham, Rita Pacheco, Dot Renshaw, and Grace Schlesier. All of our artists are
by invitation only and chosen for the special affinity they have expressed for
painting Balboa Park and its historic buildings and gardens. These centennial
works will be highly sought after to enjoy today, but also as a future
collector pieces, much like the original art shown at the 1915 exposition.
While the Art of the Park show & sale is a free
event. There is a charge to view the
popular Art of the Park: 100 Years of Art in the Park (1915-2015) a major
centennial exhibition that traces portraits of the park with 70 works of
seldom-seen plein air paintings by well-known and nearly "lost" San
Diego artists over many decades. That
exhibition is being held inside the Marston House Museum.
Admission is $15 for adults, $12 for seniors, $7 for
children ages 6-12, and free to children 5 years and under. SOHO members are
always free.
These exhibitions are part of SOHO's year-long celebration
of the Centennial of the 1915 Panama-California Exposition. For more
