I’ve always
liked the North Park Thursday Farmers but when it was on Herman Street and
North Park Way, it was too close to drive and too far to walk from my 28th
Street residence.
Now that
they’ve moved it to North Park Way and Granada, I have no excuse.
Thanks to
sponsors and coordinators like North Park Main Street, the street market is
operational every Thursday from 3 pm to 7 pm on North Park Way (between 30th
Street & Granada).
Some 65
farmers and vendors bring their locally grown produce, artisan grocery items,
prepared foods and craft goods every Thursday, year-round, to this
family-friendly community event.
Popular
vendors are J R Organics CSA Farm, Suzie’s Farm, Smit Farms, African Sisters
Farm, The Bread Barn Artisan Bread Company, Bitchin’ Sauce and GreenFix Organic
Smoothie along with great new farmers and vendors. Customers at the new event
will find fresh seafood from Poppa’s Fresh Fish Company, fine cheeses, sea
salts and bone broth, pesto, innovative prepared foods and rotating San Diego
handcraft and fancy flea sections.
Local Chefs
host cooking demonstrations with tasting experiences for customers each week.
Take advantage of the opportunity to get to know many of North Park’s trendsetting
Chefs personally, and enjoy delicious recipes from Chef Matt Gordon of Urban
Solace Restaurant, Chef Rich Sweeney of Waypoint Public, Chef Joanne Sherif of
Cardamom Cafe and Bakery, Chef Abe Botello of West Coast Tavern and many more.
Within walking distance to the North Park Thursday Market, these restaurants
will offer ongoing specials like West Coast Tavern’s new “Thursday Vegetarian
Plate” and Waypoint Public’s “Market Panzanella Salad” sourced from what’s
freshest from the farmers.
Live music
fills the air and creates a vibrant energy. Enjoy the stylings of local
performers like Ace Tropic, Eric Rozet, Barrie Dempsey, Candread and more.
Thanks to the support of the SDPL North Park Branch Library, Mona Lizzy’s Art
Studio and local chefs, the new Thursday Market will feature a healthy
after-school snack area for kiddos like Friends of Jefferson Elementary
students along with hands-on activities that share nutrition information in fun
and creative ways.
Parking is
easy thanks to the adjacent 340-space North Park Parking Garage. The North Park
Thursday Market accepts SNAP EBT cards for scrip that can be used for farm
fresh fruits and vegetables and grocery items throughout the market.
