MONDAY MEDIA / SAN DIEGO’S RESTAURANT WEEK, A WELCOME BREAK FROM THE POLITICAL MAELSTROM

By Thomas Shess, Editor, PillartoPost.org

Dear Rachel Maddow: I’m addicted to your remarkable news coverage but for this week I’m sticking my head in the sand from all the political news to stay sane (not to mention hurricane chaos and houses blowing up in New England).

Yes, I’m weak.  But even boxers get a break between rounds.

As my primary care physician has pointed out I tend to seek comfort food at any and all occasions.

Mea culpa.  Déjà vu all over, again.

My self-medication this time is to participate ALL WEEK in San Diego’s popular Restaurant Week.  This time of year participating eateries join up to offer patrons a week’s worth of discounted menu items.

The event is so popular because there are so many restaurants in the loop from cheap to posh.

San Diego Restaurant Week (14th annual) started yesterday and runs through Sunday, September 30, offering multi-course dining deals where customers can enjoy exclusive three-course dinner menus for $20-$50 per person and two-course lunches for $10-$20 at over 180 participating restaurants.

The participating restaurants span across the county from the South Bay to East County and to the borders of Oceanside and Fallbrook to the North and touch on all cuisine types and cravings.

Also, I’m not alone.  Last year more than 150,000 diners feasted on Restaurant Week deliciousness.

And, for many of us, it’s an exercise in mental health maintenance.

The event is a brilliant piece of savvy marketing to remind the locals that favorite restaurants are still out there.

San Diego Restaurant Week is brought to you by the non-profit San Diego Chapter of the California Restaurant Association.

Who knows?  Maybe Rachel Maddow will fly in and join us.
