COFFEE BEANS & BEINGS & MORE / IS THIS A MULTI MILLION CUPPA JOE?

“Act on a Sofa” (Almalisa), 1916, which the original is now in a private collection. No doubt the original will score multi-millions if it ever surfaced for public sale.
Today in the international art world, Italian modernist Amedeo Modigliani (1884-1920) is a cash cow.  Paintings in 2020 are fetching millions. An example being Modigliani’s 1916 painting named “Nu Couche,” which in 2018 fetched $157 million at a Sotheby auction.

Sadly for the artist, he never saw much money for his paintings.  He fought with personal self-destructive demons (alcohol and drugs) and died 100 years ago in poverty.

But, what does that have to do with coffee?
Not much.

Except what we do have are coffee cups being produced with images of Modigliani’s portraits, landscapes and nudes.

Reproductions of this painting at one time were all over the place from coffee cups, t-shirts and wall size repros.

But lately, even the coffee cups are rare. The coffee cup image at the top of this blog was found last year on Fine Art America  Good luck finding Modigliani coffee cups this year.
