COFFEE BEANS & BEINGS / A MODERN OASIS IN SEDONA

DRINK IN THE VIEW--The Pink Java Café is modern coffee bar along state highway 89A, the main artery through the heart of Sedona Arizona.  The “A” stands for “alternative” route that runs between the towns of Flagstaff (through Sedona and onto Jerome) and Prescott.  The 84-mile long route follows old trails through the north/central part of Arizona.  State Route 89A is a metaphor for the changing beauty of this southwestern state.  It has been branded the first scenic road designation in the state as its collective switchbacks traverse forests of mountain pine, stunning canyons, jutting red sandstone formations and scorching desert basins.

It was the view of the red rock towers outside Sedona from the patio of the Pink Java Café that captured our attention.  The coffee shop is convenient, small, and can easily be overwhelmed with tourists like us.  HOWEVER, the café’s patio area is a true oasis for travelers, who need a spot of shade and restroom facilities nearby.  We arrived early in the morning and landed a table to go with a frothy lattes and chocolate croissants.  It is a storefront to die for: da view, da view, da view!

In addition to its popular Panini menu, Pink Java serves Ritual Ground Coffee that is roasted in Vista, CA.  It’s the same brand that is served at the Circa Espresso Bar in Tucumcari, AZ.

The café gets its name because it is located in Pink Jeep Plaza, a multi-purpose building that houses the home of the wildly popular “pink” jeep tours in the area.  From the café’s patio you’ll see the pink jeeps heading out into the canyons surrounding Sedona. And from a distance look like pink ladybugs in a row.
