We launch into the future by remembering the past and man who penned the wistful anthem for a better world "Imagine."

Forty years after the musician’s death, Barbara Graustark, a writer with the New York Times, revisits conversations with the former Beatle about the long period of seclusion and self-reflection that inspired his breakthrough as a solo artist, and as a human being.

Iconic coffee shop photo by Bob Gruen, who is an American author and photographer known for his rock and roll images. By the mid-1970s Gruen was already regarded as one of the most foremost photographers in music working with major artists like John Lennon, Tina Turner, The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Elton John and Kiss. Gruen’s recent book “Right Place, Right Time” is available at major book outlets.

WEEKLY COFFEE QUIZ--Where in the world is this coffee establishment? Answer next Saturday in Coffee Beans & Beings post.

LAST WEEK’S COFFEE QUIZ got to know the Coachella desert after inheriting a manufactured home in Palm Desert CA. The home is a decent sized abode done up in mid-century modern. It’s an investment oasis as we rent it out during the winter to Canadians coming south to thaw. My big city worry was being able to find decent coffee out there where the tumbleweeds roll. At a Palm Desert, CA farmers market my worries ended after discovering a retail booth for Joshua Tree Coffee Co. [61738 TwentyNine Palms Highway, Joshua Tree CA 92252]. As long as the folks at JT Coffee keep my nearby farmers market stocked I’ll keep buying. But don’t count on me trekking up highway 62 into the heart of earthquake country. But if you’re into terrific coffee and the splendor of Joshua Tree National Park then JT Coffee is your place. Go check it out.
