ARCHIVE / MAINLY MOZART ORCHESTRA IN TUNE FOR JUNE

FIVE CONCERTS --Each June, an extraordinary group of musicians assembles in Southern California under the direction of renowned conductor David Atherton. It's a Chamber Orchestra the Los Angeles Times calls "Mainly Astounding!" 2012 will feature five unforgettable concerts at the beautifully restored Balboa Theatre in the heart of downtown San Diego, as well as the Festival Orchestra's debut in Rancho Santa Fe, at the striking, intimate Village Church. You'll hear works by Mozart, Schubert, Mendelssohn — even a delightful rendition of Peter and the Wolf — played alongside Suzie Templeton's Academy Award®-winning animated film. We'll offer a rare opportunity to hear Mozart's infrequently performed Concerto for Flute and Harp. Even rarer, Mendelssohn's unfinished Third Piano Concerto will be played by one of our founding soloists, Anton Nel.
If you have not been inside the refurbished Balboa Theatre then this fine music series is just the ticket. Balboa Theatre history notes at end of this blog.
