MEDIA MONDAY / MEET THE PRESS FIRST BROADCAST

n October 5, 1945, the popular media hour “Meet the Press” held its first broadcast program with Lawrence Spivak, one of the pioneers in broadcasting as producer and regular panelist.  

On the television side, "Meet the Press" is the longest-running program on network television, having made its NBC TV debut on November 6, 1947. 

Margaret Rountree remains the only woman moderator for "Meet the Press."

In 1952 Meet the Press won a Peabody Award (the Oscar of broadcast journalism). The words of her acceptance speech, Margaret Rountree, the producer/moderator of the TV version of "Meet the Press," remain poignant to this day. Click here.
