SOUTH BAY ORGANIC FARM OFFERS NEW TOURS
SATURDAYS AT SUZIE’S--Suzie’s Farm, one of the West’s leading organic farming operations, is offering new self-guided tours. Pick up tour materials at the farm stand Saturdays (only) between 10 am-1 pm. No headphones here! Instead, Suzie (the Norwegian Elk-Hound that inspired the farm) leads visitors in spirit from each station to the next through our colorful hand-painted signs and hand-held tour packet, complete with map of the farm, safety information and field-games. All ages welcome. Cost is $5/participant. Offered during the farm stands regular hours only: Saturdays 10 am-2 pm. Groups of 10 or less only.
Suzie’s Farm is located on 70 rural acres near the Tijuana Estuary, 13 miles south of downtown San Diego. Founded by Robin Taylor and Lucila De Alejandro in 2009, the operation is a USDA-certified organic farm that grows more than 100 different types of crops per year. Suzie’s Farm products are found in many area Farmers Markets, grocery stores and restaurants, and through its Good Farm Box, Farm Raiser and Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) programs.
According to Robin and Lucila, “when the property that is now Suzie's Farm, became available to us, we grabbed it. We knew we wanted to grow real food for real people in a traditional way, but this is a huge experiment for us. We've always gardened, and have operated Sun Grown Organic Distributors for 25 years, a sprout and wheatgrass farm, but have never taken on anything of this magnitude. It is thrilling and daunting.”
